The SSCCC Advocacy Academy is currently accepting proposals for workshop session presenters. We welcome you to become an integral part of this inaugural event. This year, the SSCCC will be inviting groups of students, associated student body organizations, partners, and other stakeholders to provide the platform for insightful and empowering discussions and collaboration between students, educators, and other interested parties.
This year's conference theme centers around “From Campus to Capitol and Every Step in Between”. The following are the Workshop Strands for this year’s conference.
Be an Advocate for Change
The SSCCC is the official voice as recognized by the Board of Governors, legislature, Chancellor’s Office, and other stakeholders for more than 1.8 million students in California community college. Legislative advocacy is one of the SSCCC pillars to use our voice. These workshops should empower students to use their voice to influence policy, educate stakeholders, and inform constituents of those issues that impact higher education and students in particular.
Leadership and Empowerment
Workshops falling under this category should be designed to empower students with essential leadership skills and strategies. Through engaging activities and discussions, attendees will enhance their self-awareness, develop leadership strengths, and cultivate the confidence to make a positive impact in their communities.
Intersectionality, Inclusivity, and Equality
DEIA is a crucial value for SSCCC. These workshops should go beyond surface-level diversity and explore strategies for advancing equity and systemic change. Students should develop the tools and know-how to drive meaningful change and promote equality at their colleges and beyond.
Building Community
Successful advocacy often begins at the grassroots level. These workshops should emphasize the importance of creating community change through innovative approaches, community engagement, action planning, and collaboration. Participants attending these workshops should gain practical skills and knowledge through interactive exercises and lively discussions.
Deadline: Proposals are due no later than Monday, October 30, 2023.
