2022 General Assembly

The Student Senate for Community Colleges has completed its 26th General Assembly, held this year on April 1 - 3, 2022, in Sacramento, CA. This event was hybrid with more than 350 students and advisors participating in the workshops, which were only held in person while more than 80 participants joined online for the general sessions. The event kicked off on Friday with a welcome by Board of Governors President Pamela Haynes who shared her story and encouraged students to persevere in their academic journey. On this first day, the delegates adopted the second chapter of the Student Plan of Action on Anti-Asian Hate, observed a presentation on the 9+1 Student Rights as compared to the faculty 10+1 rights, nominated students for the 2022 – 23 Board Officer positions, celebrated three students who received the second annual student leadership award from the California Community College Board of Governors, as well as join the event participants to participate in six workshops on a variety of subjects.

The second day was just as successful! The morning began with a Student Panel: How to Engage Students of Color facilitated by Dr. Edward Bush, President of Cosumnes River College. Then the current SSCCC Board Officers presented the State of the Senate followed by the resolution debate and voting, and ended with participants enjoying 17 workshops on a variety of subjects.

On the final day of the general assembly, the delegates voted for the 2022 – 23 Board Officers and concluded with voting on resolutions. The draft minutes will be available soon and the Final Resolution results can be viewed here.
