2024 General Assembly

The 28th General Assembly of the Student Senate for Community Colleges convened from April 5 to 7, 2024, in Santa Clara, CA, drawing over 700 students and advisors who engaged in more than 40 workshops. Opening ceremonies included a Land Acknowledgement honoring the Tamien Nation's aboriginal homeland and welcoming remarks from Chancellor Dr. Sonya Christian and California Community College Trustee Board (CCCT) Student Trustee, Nicole Nguyen of Foothill College.

The first day featured the nomination of 35 students for the 2024-25 Board Officer positions, as well as recognition of four students who received the California Community College Board of Governors' annual student leadership award:

  • April Brown (Long Beach City College)
  • Claudette Clark (Cuyamaca College)
  • Jessica Lopez (Coastline College)
  • Nikhil Masand (Contra Costa College)

Additionally, delegates participated in 18 workshops.

The second day commenced with a student panel on Anti-Racism: A Student Plan of Action, where representatives from the four chapters shared insights. Chapters 3 (American Indian/Alaska Native) and 4 (Undocumented Student) were presented and adopted. Later, a presentation on Transforming Higher Education Access showcased a partnership between LACCD and LA Unified School District. The day concluded with debates, resolutions voting, and 17 workshops.
