SSCCC Congratulates Chancellor Oakley on appointment to Biden Administration

SACRAMENTO -- The Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) congratulates Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley on his appointment to serve as Special Advisor for higher education to the U.S. Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona.

“The students of the California Community Colleges would like to extend our congratulations to Chancellor Ortiz Oakley. We are excited to see him bring the same vision he has implemented in California to students all across the nation” said SSCCC President, Gerardo Chavez.

Chavez said the SSCCC looks forward to working with Acting Chancellor Dr. Daisy Gonzales, the California Community College Chancellor’s Office, and the Board of Governors during this time. We are confident that Acting Chancellor Dr. Gonzales will continue the good work of Chancellor Oakley including the continuing implementation of the Vision for Success.

The mission of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) is to pursue policies that will improve student access, promote student success, engage and empower local student leaders, and enrich the collegiate experience for all California community college students.

The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation, composed of 73 districts and 116 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. The Student Senate for California Community College works to promote and safeguard access for current and future students to California public higher education in accordance with the Master Plan for Higher Education through system participatory governance, legislative and policy advocacy, and regional support and development and is the official voice of California community college students statewide.
