Sacramento, Calif. - On Saturday, August 14, 2021, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges Board of Directors took a position to support the requirement of COVID-19 vaccinations for colleges that are reopening with flexibility where vaccines are not possible due to medical conditions or sincerely held religious beliefs. The SSCCC urges administrators, staff, faculty, and students to follow local safety protocols in order to protect themselves and others and to prevent the spread of the virus.
The SSCCC also encourages all students to get vaccinated if they are able. “The Delta variant has hindered the opening of many of our campuses. Students need to be back on campus for their academic success, as well as for their mental health. The more students who are vaccinated, the quicker we all can get back to in-person learning.” Gerardo Chavez, President
The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation, composed of 73 districts and 116 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. The Student Senate for California Community College works to promote and safeguard access for current and future students to California public higher education in accordance with the Master Plan for Higher Education through system participatory governance, legislative and policy advocacy, and regional support and development and is the official voice of California community college students statewide.
