Student Senate for California Community Colleges Commends the Passing of Proposition 2

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) commends California voters for passing Proposition 2, which allocates $1.5 billion to colleges for renovating, fixing, and constructing needed facilities. Proposition 2 represents a significant investment in the much-needed modernization and maintenance of campuses, enabling California community colleges to better support students’ educational journeys.

“The passing of Prop 2 is a victory for California’s community college students,” said Ivan Hernandez, President of the SSCCC. “We are grateful to the voters for recognizing the importance of this measure in creating safe, functional, and modern campuses that meet the evolving needs of our students.”

The SSCCC acknowledges that while the approval of Proposition 2 is a significant milestone, more work remains to fully support the needs of community college students. The organization remains committed to advocating for policies and resources to improve educational experiences and equity for all.

 The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation, composed of 73 districts and 116 colleges serving 2 million students annually.  The Student Senate for California Community Colleges’ mission is to enrich the collegiate experience for all two million California community college students by pursuing policies that will improve student access and success while engaging and empowering local student leaders and honoring equity and diversity.
