SSCCC’s 2024 Advocacy Academy Empowers 400+ Student Leaders to Shape California’s Community College Future

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) successfully hosted its annual Advocacy Academy at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel, bringing together more than 400 community college students and advisors from across the state. The three-day event on November 22-24, 2024, equipped students with the tools, knowledge, and leadership skills needed to drive change and influence policy decisions in California’s community college system.

Advocacy Academy is one of the premier events organized by SSCCC. It provides a platform for students to learn about legislative advocacy, strengthen leadership skills, and enhance their abilities to advocate for the issues that matter most to them. With a robust schedule of workshops, networking opportunities, and discussions, students participated in hands-on training sessions focused on navigating the legislative process and empowering student voices in higher education policy.

“Seeing over 400 students unite with a shared commitment to advocate for positive change is truly inspiring. The energy, passion, and dedication demonstrated here in Sacramento reflect the power and potential of our student body.” - President Ivan Hernandez.
