Mars Gasmelseed (She/Her) is a second-year student at Monterey Peninsula College, pursuing a degree in Economics with a planned minor in Computer Science. She will transfer to a four-year university in fall 2025 and aspires to earn a master’s degree.
Passionate about building an inclusive and engaging campus, Mars serves as President of the Black Student Union, Lead Umoja Ambassador, and Senator-at-Large in the Associated Student Body. She works closely with faculty, students, and campus committees to shape policies, enhance administrative services, and advocate for equity and accessibility. Through her leadership, she has expanded outreach and participation in the Umoja program, creating meaningful opportunities for African American students.
In addition to her campus leadership, Mars is an active public speaker, having presented at symposiums, Umoja graduations, and resource workshops. She has also developed, films, and edits promotional content to showcase campus life, uplift the school’s image, and engage prospective students. Beyond campus, she coordinates opportunities for students to attend events such as galas and festivals, creating connections that extend beyond the classroom.
Outside of academics, Mars enjoys playing pickleball, hiking, and curating her growing perfume collection.
