Alec Sarkissian

Alec Sarkissian (he/him/his) is a first year Political Science major at Sacramento City College, where he is preparing to transfer to UC Berkeley before pursuing a Juris Doctorate at Georgetown University School of Law. His goal is to become a lobbyist, utilizing his education and experience to influence public policy effectively.

Alec has developed a strong foundation in advocacy, policy research, and association management, particularly focusing on Armenian-American issues and local governance. He currently serves as the Secretary of Legislative Affairs at Sacramento City College and is a Legislative/Association Management Intern at Shaw Yoder Antwih Schmelzer & Lange, one of California's top 10 advocacy firms.

His previous experience includes interning under Mayor Martha Guerrero of the City of West Sacramento, where he contributed to community outreach efforts. Additionally, he interned in Washington D.C. with the Armenian National Committee of America, where he lobbied for the Armenian Protection Act of 2023-2024 (S. 3000) and assisted in its passage while receiving training in advocacy techniques.

Alec is dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounding community college by offering Career Materials Workshops at Sacramento City College and forging partnerships with major organizations in Sacramento. His goal is to create internship opportunities for community college students, providing them with valuable experience and skills that will enhance their career development and enable them to compete effectively with peers from top-tier universities.

Alec aims to be a valuable resource for community college students regarding legislative and non-legislative issues. He plans to focus his advocacy on policies related to tuition and academic freedom but is well-versed in various legislative matters. He looks forward to leveraging his skills and connections to support Region II constituents and community college students across California.
