John Cariaga

John Cariaga is a student at Antelope Valley College (AVC), where he is double-majoring in Psychology and Political Science. He plans to transfer to a UC to pursue Forensic Psychology, aiming to work in the legal field.

John was born and raised in the Philippines and migrated to the United States immediately after graduating high school in 2022. In terms of leadership, John served as the ASB President during his senior high school year– then later joined AVC’s student-government initially as a Senator. He later became the ASO Executive Director of Public Relations, where he had served on various college committees and ASO-Based panels. Currently, he serves his student-government as the Vice President of Academic Affairs. John is deeply passionate about student advocacy, and his commitment to lobbying for student interests is evident in his work.

Despite being new to his environment and his cultural transitions, John has not let that hinder his desire to volunteer in his communities, Lancaster and Palmdale, the cities where he currently resides. By joining SSCCC as a Regional Officer, he aims to increase engagement
and visibility of the SSCCC amongst college campuses within Region VI. In his free time, he enjoys reading books, listening to music, and playing chess– activities he believes help keep his mind sharp.
